About Dental Fillings

Dental fillings restore teeth that have been affected by decay or minor damage. Once the decayed portion is gently removed, the filling material is placed to rebuild the tooth, allowing it to function normally again. It is one of the most common dental treatments, and our team at Grange Road Dental makes the experience as comfortable as possible.

We use modern tooth-coloured composite fillings that blend naturally with your existing teeth. At Grange Road Dental, we also offer BioClear fillings, a methodology for building up composite resin that provides greater structural integrity for the tooth. BioClear fillings recreate the strength that traditional fillings leave missing, offering better adaptation, smoother surfaces and a stronger result.

One of the advantages of BioClear fillings is that they can often help avoid the need for a dental crown, especially when there are existing cracks in a tooth. By providing structural support in a conservative way, a BioClear filling can be a good option to consider before going down the path of a crown. Our team has specialty training in this technique to provide this level of care for your teeth.

The filling process is quick and comfortable. Local anaesthetic is available to ensure you feel nothing during treatment. Most fillings are completed in a single visit, often in under an hour. After your filling, you can return to normal eating and drinking straight away in most cases.

I don't do reviews but I had to for everyone here. I have a fear of dentists, none of the staff knew that but the receptionist clocked it, she engaged with me and tried to elevate my fear, she expressed to the team I was very apprehensive and nervous. The team listened and everyone who was involved with my care went above and beyond. Everything was explained to me and I was given time, there was never any rush. On the day of my [...], which I had so much anxiety about, the receptionist remembered me, the team knew I was scared and they all made my experience calm and amazing. They walked me through what was happening and let me know it was OK to tell them at any point If I felt uncomfortable. As a person that is truly petrified of dentists, I can not thank this team enough.

I started going to Grange Rd dental after having a traumatic experience at another dentist and my husband convinced me to see his dentist (Dr Andrew). Dr Andrew was very kind and patient and gentle and I was so incredibly thankful to find such a good dentist. He has taken such good care of [...] for 15 years now and all my children see him too. I appreciate how he [...] for me (as I still sometimes get anxious) and does not rush things and explains what he is doing. His gentleness and ability to reduce my anxiety by making me as comfortable as possible is so appreciated by me. He is thorough and passionate about his work and cares for his patients. I highly recommend Dr Andrew and this surgery as all the other staff are also very caring and helpful.

Oh gosh so many positive things , right from walking in the door, always get a lovely greeting from the staff especially Emily but they are all amazing. The surgery is immaculate it has a beautiful ambience . Then Andrew ( Dr Andrew Zischke ) is next level caring, he could see how nervous I was so he was very gentle and never rushed, explaining what he was doing and what to expect , I could sense how passionate Andrew is about making sure every client leaves with a positive experience, [...] I cannot recommend Andrew enough, stop procrastinating and make your appointment today you will not regret it .

Dental Fillings FAQs

What are BioClear fillings?

BioClear is a methodology for building up composite resin fillings that provides more structural integrity than traditional techniques. The result is smoother, stronger, and aims to recreate the natural strength of the tooth. Our team at Grange Road Dental has additional training in this approach.

Can a filling help me avoid a crown?

In some cases, yes. Our team in Ipswich has specialty training in BioClear fillings, which can provide enough structural support to strengthen a cracked or heavily filled tooth without the need for a full crown. We will assess your situation and recommend the most conservative approach.

How long do tooth-coloured fillings last?

Modern composite fillings are durable and can last many years with good oral care. BioClear fillings tend to be particularly long-lasting due to their structural properties. Your dentist will monitor your fillings during regular check-ups.

Will I feel anything during the filling procedure?

We use local anaesthetic to ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure. Most patients report feeling no discomfort during treatment. The process is usually completed in a single visit, often in under an hour.

Should I replace my old silver fillings?

Older amalgam fillings do not need to be replaced simply because of their age. However, if a filling is cracked, leaking or the tooth around it shows signs of decay, replacing it with a modern composite or BioClear filling can improve both strength and appearance. We assess each filling on its merits.
