PREVENTIVE CARE
Dental Check-ups
A dental check-up is a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and mouth to identify concerns before they become bigger problems. Your dentist will assess your oral health, screen for decay and gum disease, review any x-rays, and discuss findings with you. When you book a checkup and clean, you receive two services working together: the cleaning by our hygienist and the examination by your dentist.
During a dental check-up, your dentist conducts a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and the soft tissues of your mouth. We check for signs of decay, gum disease, wear patterns and any changes that may need monitoring. Your bite and jaw alignment are also assessed to ensure everything is functioning well.
X-rays are an important part of your check-up, as they allow us to see what is happening beneath the surface. They can reveal decay between teeth, issues with tooth roots and changes in the bone that supports your teeth. Our dentists will explain any findings and discuss whether further investigation or treatment is recommended.
At Grange Road Dental, your check-up and clean are designed to work together. While our dentists, Dr Andrew Zischke and Dr Yi-Lin (James) Yang, focus on examining and diagnosing, our hygienists Casey and Michelle take care of the cleaning. This coordinated approach ensures nothing is missed and your oral health is looked after from every angle.
Regular check-ups are one of the best ways to catch concerns early, when they are often simpler to treat. We recommend visits every six months for most patients, though your dentist may suggest a different schedule based on your individual needs.

PATIENT EXPERIENCES
We value the trust our patients place in our team. Here's a selection of feedback from people we care for in Ipswich.
How often should I have a dental check-up in Ipswich?
We recommend a check-up every six months for most patients. Your dentist may suggest more frequent visits if you have specific concerns such as gum disease or a history of decay. Regular check-ups help catch problems early, when they are often simpler to treat. To book your next check-up at Grange Road Dental, call (07) 3281 6666.
What happens during a dental check-up?
Your dentist examines your teeth, gums and soft tissues, checks for signs of decay and gum disease, reviews X-rays, and assesses your bite and jaw alignment. Any findings are discussed with you, along with recommended next steps.
Are dental X-rays safe?
Modern digital X-rays use very low levels of radiation and are considered safe for routine dental care. They are an important tool that helps us see problems beneath the surface, such as decay between teeth or changes in bone around your tooth roots.
Is a check-up the same as a clean?
They are two separate services that work together. Your dentist performs the examination and diagnosis, while our hygienists Casey and Michelle perform the professional clean. When you book a check-up and clean, you receive both at the same appointment.
What if something is found during my check-up?
At Grange Road Dental, we explain any findings clearly and discuss your treatment options. There is no pressure to proceed on the spot. Our goal is to give you the information you need to make informed decisions about your dental health.
